"It was a very proud moment and one that we will all enjoy as the Merlot Dominant category was extremely competitive, as you would expect with Hawkes Bay producing some of the very best in New Zealand. To take the Export Award on top of this was truly outstanding," says Wild Rock's General Manager Ash Ireland aka "The Wild Rock Guy'.
The Trophy for Best Export Wine of the Show comes at a significant time for the company as New Zealand is increasingly recognised internationally for producing top Bordeaux Blends. The Wild Rock Wine Company is leading the way with exports from the last two vintages exceeding 10,000 cases to a wide range of markets including the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.
"The 2008 Wild Rock Gravel Pit Red is great example of a fleshy, riper style currently coming out of Hawkes Bay, which is fashioned and rewarded with the all of the necessary quality hallmarks such as balance, intensity, length...the constituent parts of great wine," commented Rod McDonald Chairman of Judges for the Hawkes Bay A&P Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards.
Wild Rock Wine is made by the internationally regarded Craggy Range Winemaking team based in Hawkes Bay. Since 2002, the Gravel Pit Red Merlot Malbec has won an impressive total of 6 Trophies, 13 Gold Medals, and 16 Silver Medals.
