SurfAid International (SAI) is the brainchild of New Zealanders Dr Dave Jenkins, Andrew Griffiths and Dr Steve Hathaway who founded the organisation in 2000.

A community development organization, SurfAid runs health, disaster preparedness, and water and sanitation programs in the Mentawai and Nias Islands, off the Sumatran Coast of Indonesia.

There are high levels of poor nutrition in the Mentawai and Nias Islands and the people suffer from a high prevalence of treatable and preventable diseases, accompanied by low levels of understanding of their causes. Devastatingly, the infant mortality rate in the Mentawai Islands is nearly one in 10.

The Community-Based Health Program has the potential to help more than 74,000 people in the Mentawai Islands, and more than 720,000 people in Nias and other nearby islands.

SurfAid has offices in Australia, the USA and New Zealand, employs 131 staff worldwide - 90 per cent of which are Indonesian nationals - and raises more than US$3million a year - two-thirds from government and institutional donors; one-third from the surf industry and private donors.

The organisation has a Schools Program in supporter locations around the world educating current and future generations on cross-cultural understanding and global social responsibility using the SurfAid experience.

Wild Rock is proud to be a supporter of this worthy cause and is dedicated to continue increasing awareness of the organisation and its programmes through fundraising efforts including our Vans Triple Crown of Surfing promotions and partnering with Billabong. Wild Rock also donates a portion of every bottle of wine sold world-wide to Surf Aid International.
